Pesta Ketam in Sematan
So we woke up early in the morning last Saturday and made it back to campus at about 6.30am. Amazing how Kuching roads get so empty early in the morning. A trip that was supposed to take 20 minutes took only about half the time. Anyways, we reached there to find that the bus has gone back to the depot upon seeing no one at the information centre (we were supposed to be waiting for the bus there). The driver was half way washing his car depot when our Ketua Program spotted him and asked him come and get us. Well that all happen from the time we arrived til about 7.30am. Yup we were late…Definitely!
The trip to Sematan took about 2 hours. Brings back old memories of when I was there for a totally different reason. My dive site about 2 years ago was Talang-talang islands; about an hours ride off the shores of Sematan. The sea there had good visibility with very, very beautiful corals and countless lobsters. Anyways, I was here this time for the crabs.
It was a sunny afternoon, perfect for a carnival like this. The pier was inviting and beautiful. Reminds me of St. Kilda’s when I was in Melbourne visiting Danny. So like I said, we were late so we missed most of the opening ceremony. Not like we were interested at all. The ceremony was officiated by Datuk George Chan who came with his faithful cowboy hat. But heck, we were starving so we ate whether or not the ceremony was opened! First thing I ate was crab sandwich. Delicious! That wasn’t the only of crab there. There was pie tee, burgers with soft shell crab (they actually put the whole crab in!) and fried rice with crab meat. Wow were we feasting me and my girl friends (Ah Mau, this includes you). We enjoyed ourselves so much this trip. Seriously, the most enjoyable part is we didn’t have to write a report when we go back heheheh. I could only wish we had carnivals like these in the West.
Soft shell crab burgers... Anyone?
Dr. George Chan... looking for some free food after the officiation of the Carnival hehe
