The Lun Bawang and beautiful things
I had the privilege of spending the past 2 days with Sarah’s extended family. The family arrived on Saturday afternoon from Lawas. About 10-15 of them. I lost count. So far I have yet to say anything to them besides the word hello.
They are from the Lun Bawang clan. A minority in Sarawak itself. The people of this clan are big boned. The men are involved in the timber industry whereas the women stay home and play the full role as housewives (unlike a lot of women from cities). Their cuisine, judging from the two days living and EATING with them, is what I would consider simple. So far I’ve tasted their barbequed wild boar and their bitter (broth with vege. It has a bitter after taste. I think that’s how it got the name).
They speak a language which I do not understand so I can’t say much about that.
Today I managed to get a glimpse of then gathering together with the rest of the Lun Bawang people from Kuching. Their way of worship was very similar to ours except for the language of course. They sang “Old Rugged Cross” in their own language. That’s one of Pastor Isaac’s favourite songs hehe
Also for the past few days, I have been focusing on what’s beautiful in life. Check out the pictures...
